Opening Day of Waupaca Community Arts Board’s ARTicipation Week on Sunday, Aug. 11.
Daily events are planned for the community to engage in as a celebration of the arts leading up to the 18th annual juried fine arts show Arts on the Square Saturday, Aug. 17.
Visitors should bring a lawn chair and plan to spend Sunday afternoon on the town square.
At noon, children will bring their bikes and decorate them. The Kids’ Decorated Bike Parade will then commence at 1 p.m. on the town square.

At 1 p.m., visitors may join in the art projects such as pendulum painting and SHINE Together where they will create frame panel with colored glass beads as part of the community art project. Barnwood Farms will host a flower bar where visitors may create their own free bouquet of flowers.
From 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the traditional “Big Sing Super Jam Session” will take place in the historic bandstand. Songbooks with chords will be provided for both singers and musicians who bring their own instruments.
At 3 p.m., the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra Percussion group will play on steel drums, and invite the audience to participate.
From 3-5 p.m. on the town square, the Arts Hub will provide a KIds’ Open Mic. Children are invited to share a few tunes, jokes or poems.
At the same time, youth are encouraged to create sidewalk chalk art around the bandstand.
During a special edition of the PodPaca podcast, host Joe Drake will interview artists. The podcast is available beginning at 11 a.m. on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and various platforms.
From 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Waupaca Area Public Library staff will lead a family art project creating alcohol ink coasters, All supplies will be provided. Dark clothes are recommended.
At 5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church on Demarest Street, Maggie Hunt Wilson will present “Sound Bath,” a soothing journey of sound using s Tibetan singing bowls, a gong, chimes and a Shruti box. She recommends that attendees bring a yoga mat, pillows) an eye mask, blankets and a water bottle to be comfortable while listening to the sounds. Chairs will be available.
Kids Art Camp runs from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 14-16, at The Arts Hub, 720 Demarest Ave. Waupaca. “Inspired by Glass” is led by artist Michelle This intensive class is free for ages 8-13. Registration is required by Aug. 5. The students will provide a gallery of their work at Arts on the Square on Saturday.
At 7 p.m. The River District will perform acoustic folk, blues and jam band music at HH Hinder Brewing Co., 804 Churchill St., Waupaca. Admission is free.
At 8 p.m.. the Waupaca Parks and Recreation Department will screen a free outdoor movie at South Park – “Wonka.” The event will also feature treats and refreshments from Shindigs, a bounce house and an inflatale ax throw.
At 4 p.m., Arts Hub Music Heart and Soul Club students will be at the 96.3 FM studio in City Hall for the Waupaca Local Live show. They will perform their work on the 1950s Hoagie Carmichael’s classic tune, “Heart and Soul.”
From 4-7 p.m., Waupaca downtown retailers will host a late night of shopping complete with food trucks.
At 7pm, Waupaca’s “Band Orphans” will perform the songs of Leonard Cohen, Lucinda Williams, James McMurtry, Natalie Merchant, Willie Nelson and Buddy Holly on Simpson’s deck, at the corner of Main and Badger streets.
From 7-10 p.m. the 18th annual Street Dance will feature the band The Jimmys. performing under the main tent on East fulton Street next to the library. “They’re a treat for any fans of roots rock, old school R&B, and straight-up blues. every performance is like a party!” according to Bruce Iglauer with Alligator Records. Last year, The Jimmys played at the Summer Nights Concerts in Waupaca.
When the band takes a break, Cloud Nine will present a fireshow.
Food, beer, wine and soft drinks will be for sale, beginning at 6 p.m.
