Local Independence Day celebrations

Local communities will host events to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend.

In Waupaca, the annual Hometown Day parade will start at noon Sunday, July 4, and make its way down Main Street. Immediately following the parade, there will be food sold at South Park. The Knights of Columbus will sell barbecue chicken, and Kiwanis will sell brats, hot dogs, soda and sweets. A fireworks show is slated for 9:30 p.m. over Shadow Lake at South Park. The local radio station, WDUX-FM 92.7, will play patriotic music to accompany the fireworks.

Weyauwega will celebrate Independence Day on Saturday, July 3. Weyauwega Trails will host food and activities at the Waupaca County Fairgrounds in Weyauwega, beginning at 4 p.m. July 3. The city of Weyauwega will provide the fireworks show at dusk on that evening.

In Iola, fireworks are planned at dusk Friday, July 2, at Taylor Field. Baseball and softball games begin at 4:30 p.m. and will include the annual softball game between the Iola Rural Fire Department and Scandinavia Fire Department.

The Mid-Western Rodeo will be held July 2-4 at the rodeo grounds in Manawa. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Rodeo Parade is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Kiddie Parade will not be held in Fremont this year.
