More charges filed against bus driver

A special prosecutor has filed more felony charges against the New London school bus driver accused of sexually assaulting teen boys.

Delton D. Gorges, 71, New London, was charged June 22 with repeated sexual assault of the same child, attempted sexual assault of a student by school staff, and two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.

Gorges first appeared in Waupaca County Circuit Court on May 11 when he was charged with one count of sexual assault of a child.

New London police continued interviewing possible victims and four more victims came forward with accusations.

According to the criminal complaint, one of the victims, who was 17 at the time of the alleged incident in November 2008, told police that Gorges touched him inappropriately while he was riding on the school bus. His mother told police that she subsequently called the school and the school bus garage, and reported the incident.

Another former New London student, who was 17 at the time, said that in November 2009 Gorges began discussing prostate cancer after picking him up in the school van. Gorges allegedly slowed the van down to approximately 20 mph and touched him in appropriately.

The same teen said Gorges also made comments about his sex life while driving the school bus.

Outagamie County District Attorney Carrie Schneider is prosecuting the case due to a conflict of interest in the Waupaca County district attorney’s office.

On June 22, Judge Philip Kirk amended Gorges’ bond from a signature bond to a $5,000 cash bond.

Kirk has scheduled the case for further proceedings on July 6.
