It’s more than a race

As it is with all big specials we’ve come to the point of high anticipation for the event to take place. It’s also the point where you hear about this driver is coming, or this driver isn’t coming. It now appears that Jeep Van Wormer will not be coming to Shawano Speedway for the World of Outlaws show. I will admit, I am disappointed by that since he is one of my favorite drivers. It also disappoints me because he had the Shawano race on his schedule on his web site almost all summer. That’s why you can never count on a driver being at a race until his hauler actually pulls onto the track grounds.

But you know what, I’m not going to lose any sleep over it because the race is still going to include some of the best dirt late model drivers in the country. I’m going to enjoy watching them race at our local track.

This morning I looked over the updated seating chart of tickets that have been sold so far. The chart has filled in a lot over the last couple days. There are still good seats available though.

For those worried about the car count for the show, I’d like to express my view on a special race like this. To me, it’s not just the race I look forward to, it’s the whole atmosphere. You see race fans at your area track you’ve never seen before. You get to watch and meet drivers who you hardly ever get to see race in person unless you drive hours to other tracks. Some of these drivers will bring their sourvenir trailers so you can buy merchandise from them. You’ll see tailgating going on before the races. It’s just a fun experience.

See you at the track.
