Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 53 was voted 2010 Best in the State at the DAV State Convention held June 10-12 in Green Bay. This is the fifth time the local chapter has won this award in the past 11 years.
Chapter 53 serves all of Waupaca County, except for the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. The chapter also covers Tigerton, Hortonville and Shiocton.
The plan is for the trophy to be on display over the next year at public libraries in Manawa, Iola, Marion, New London, Clintonville and Waupaca.
Judging for the state’s best DAV chapter was done in the areas of membership program, the chapter’s participation in veteran’s organization functions in the community, participation in the DAV chapter meetings, fundraising, donations, participation in community events, publicity, legislative procedures, and visits and programs at hospitals, nursing homes, and more.
