Schewe family holds 48th reunion

CAROLINE – The 48th Schewe Reunion of the Carl and Pauline (Huth) Schewe descendents was held July 25 at the town of Grant Hall.

Families socialized as soon as they arrived and everyone enjoyed a magnificent potluck dinner and supper. The annual photos were taken by Betty (Jahsman) Allen, Schewe historian.

After dinner the children rushed for a try at the fish pond where they caught many prizes.

While the children played, the adults had their meeting, which was called to order by President Kay (Schewe) Stern. Her first order was to ask for a moment of silence for those who have departed us. She then turned the meeting over to the Secretary-Treasurer Shirley (Jahsman) Fleischer. Fleischer gave a short report of our last meeting and also reported on the monies left.

She then turned the meeting over to historian Betty Allen, who noted that there were 52 members in attendance. The oldest member present was Lucille Schewe, age 88, of Caroline. The youngest was Austin Lee Yaeger, 10 months, 25 days old, son of Chad and Jennifer (Prickette) Yaeger, of Clintonville. Gifts were given to both the oldest and youngest.

Births reported at this meeting were Elizabeth Campbell, Jan. 3, 2009, daughter of Chris and Jennifer (Keifer) Campbell; Copper Ann Bruce, July 16, 2010, daughter of Robert and Rhonda (Jahsman) Bruce; Peyton Gregory Gill, June 8, 2010, son of Greg and Jill (Nowak) Gill; Austin Lee Yaeger, Aug. 28, 2009, son of Chad and Jennifer (Prickette) Yaeger. One adoption was reported for Reggie Salvador Stern, born Aug. 5, 1997, son of Brandon and Ann (Young) Stern.

Marriages reported were Robert and Rhonda (Jahsman) Bruce, May 21, 2010; Andrew and Victoria (Fleischer) Schmidt, July 17, 2010.

Deaths reported were Harold Roloff, Oct. 10, 2009; John Ivan Polzin, April 1, 2010; Lorraine Marie (Schwanke) Jahsman, May 12, 2010.

The meeting continued with no old business.

New business was brought forward. It was suggested that we start using the Internet for sending out e-mail for next year’s reunion instead of writing out postcards. This suggestion did not pass do to the lack of computers in elderly families.

Janice Miller and grandchildren, of Cottage Grove, Wis., received a gift for having traveled the farthest to attend. Eight door prizes were drawn. Receiving door prizes were Andrew Schmidt, Nicole Wolfe, Janice Miller, Dan and Diane Flessert, Kay Stern, Eric Wolfe, Ann Stern and Peggy Stueck.

The white elephant sale was next with Brandon Stern chosen as auctioneer. Stern did such a great job that he was also chosen for next year’s reunion.

The meeting was then adjourned and bingo was played.
