Neighborhood focus of walking tour

The New London Public Museum will host their third historic walking tour kick-off event Sept.18, focusing this time on the Washington Center neighborhood. Several of the past homeowners were either related to each other or connected through their business ventures. Most of the eight homes on the tour range from the late 1800’s to the early 1940’s.

Tours start from the Washington Center at 9 a.m., and leave every ten minutes, with the final tour starting at noon. The tours last around 75 minutes.

If you are unable to walk the tour, the New London transit bus will be provided for the 9, 10:30 and noon tours. There is limited space on the bus, so please call the museum before Sept. 15 to sign up for a time slot.

During the museum’s Walking Tour of Historic Homes kick-off event, volunteer guides will lead groups around to the homes and costumed characters will talk about the history of the house.

The Washington Center will be open for self-guided tours and the museum will have a small display of historic postcards set up there for all to enjoy.

Don’t miss the classic cars on exhibit and stop by the Familiar Grounds booth to buy a fantastic beverage and treat.

A suggested kick-off tour donation of $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12, plus future booklet donations will help to preserve the collection at the New London Public Museum and continue educational programs to our community.
