Tigers take down Truckers

The Clintonville Truckers came out of the gates with some spark Friday night, but could not contain the Ripon Tigers’ running attack in an Eastern Valley football game.

The final score was Ripon 27, Clintonville 13.

The Truckers’ spark at the beginning of the game came on a fourth down play. With fourth and long, the Truckers opted for a fake punt. Quarterback Ben Klein connected with Trenten Gauthier on a 38-yard pass for the score. The Joe Hauser extra point was good and Clintonville led 7-0.

Not to be out done, the Ripon Tigers mounted a scoring drive on which the Truckers struggled to contain running back Ben Wetzel. Wetzel went 30 yards on an out pass from quarterback Michael Polcyn to score for Ripon. The extra point kick by Ian Rasch was good. The game was tied at seven apiece.

Clintonville struggled the remainder of the night with the Ripon running game. The Truckers gave up 304 yards of rushing on 52 attempts by the Tigers. This was probably the biggest difference in the game. Clintonville could only muster 79 yards on 26 carries.

After giving up two more scores in the first half, a one yard run and a 42 yard run by Ripon, the Truckers made some adjustments at halftime to give-up only one score in the second half. That score was a one yard run by Ripon, who had to earn it.

To get back in the game, Clintonville began to throw the ball a little more. For the game, Clintonville’s Ben Klein was 11 of 18 for 180 yards of passing. Receiving the ball for the Truckers were Brandon Sivertson with 77 yards on three catches; Mike Hogan with 16 yards on two catchers; Joe Hauser with 50 yards on five catches; and Trenten Gauthier with one catch for 38 yards.

Clintonville’s final score came early in the fourth quarter which was set-up by a Klein to Sievertson 34 yard pass. Joe Hauser punched it in from the one yard line. The extra point kick sailed wide left. The final score of 27-13 leaves the Truckers at 0-2 in the Eastern Valley Conference with a non-conference game on Friday night at Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs Academy High School. Game time is 7 p.m.
