Volleyball team goes 2-3

The Weyauwega-Fremont volleyball team posted a 2-3 record at Saturday’s Marshfield Invitational.

The Indians opened the tournament with a 27-25, 25-21 win over Superior.

Kirsten Dailey led the team with four kills, while Teal Tomaszewski had nine digs. Rachel Knecht and Kate Wieters added four assists each and Knecht also served up an ace.

W-F then dropped a match to Medford, 12-25 and 21-25. Knecht, Dani Austreng and Bailey Kapitzke each contributed three kills, Wieters added nine assists, Tomaszewski had 12 digs and two aces and Dacia Goetsch added three solo block kills.

The Indians then dropped two of three games to Abbotsford, 21-25, 25-12, 13-15. Kapitzke led the way with six kills, Wieters and Kelsey Akey shared the assist lead with 6 apiece, Maggie Knecht had three block kills, including two solo blocks and an assisted block kill with Knecht. Tomaszewski and Wieters had four aces each and Tomaszewski and Kapitzke had nine digs each.

W-F then dropped a pair of games to Marshfield, 12-25, 11-25, and the Indians wrapped up the day with a pair of 25-21 wins over Iola-Scandinavia. Knecht had eight kills, Wieters and Knecht added seven assists, Austreng and Tomaszewski contributed four and three aces, respectively, Tomaszewski and Kapitzke added 10 digs and Austreng, Kapitzke and Goetsch put down two block kills each.

“Serve-receive was exceptional all day,” coach Rena Tomaszewski said. “We are continuing to build to what we expect to be an exciting finish for the season. The girls are learning and becoming better players every day.”

The Indians traveled to Wittenberg-Birnamwood Tuesday and will host Bonduel tonight (Thursday), with the action set to start at 6 p.m. W-F will also play at Stevens Point Pacelli Tuesday, Sept. 14.
