Show your card, get a cushion

Do you carry your library card with you all the time? If you don’t, you’ll want to make sure you have it with you if you’re attending the Sept. 17 Manawa Wolves football game at Lindsay Field.

In celebration of National Library Card Sign up Month, staff from the Sturm Memorial Library will be “carding” people at the ticket entrances to the game. If you have your library card with you, you’ll receive a free stadium seat cushion while supplies last.

If you don’t have your card, staff will give you a registration card with a small treat attached to encourage you to come to the library to get a library card.

The cushions will be in the school colors and will show support for the Manawa Wolves. The cushions will also be highlighting the centennial celebration of Sturm Memorial Library, which will run from October 2010 to May 2011. The major sponsor for the cushions is Baylake Bank, with additional sponsorship provided by Little Wolf Automotive and Lorge Plumbing.

September has been designated Library Card Sign Up Month in an effort to call attention to the fact that a library card can get you a lot of things and most of it for free. Internet access, movies, music, magazines and, of course, books are available at the library.

The library’s online catalog, Infosoup, offers close to one million items from over 50 libraries in Northeast Wisconsin. Infosoup also has newspapers, magazines, and car repair manuals, practice tests for college entrance, civil service and other exams, and self-taught foreign language programs available for anyone with a library card.
