Werner, Phyllis Graham

Phyllis Graham Werner, age 95, died peacefully on Friday, September 10, 2010, in Appleton, WI. A resident of Naples, Florida, Phyllis was born in Waupun, Wisconsin on July 17, 1915, the daughter of Walter and Luro Graham. After growing up in Waupun, she attended high school at Ferry Hall in Lake Forest, IL and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. It was there that she met her husband, Francis Werner. They were married on October 2, 1937, and moved to New London Wisconsin, where Francis practiced law for many years. While in New London, Phyllis was a member of the Women’s Club and served as it’s president. She was also on the Board of Directors of the New London Library Board and the New London United Way. Phyllis was an avid bridge player, loved to read and to travel, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In addition to their home in New London, Phyllis and Francis spent many summers at their cottage on the Chain O’Lakes in Waupaca. Later they became residents of Naples, Fl., where they were members of the Moorings Country Club and the Royal Poinciana Golf Club. Recently, Phyllis has resided at Touchmark on West Prospect in Appleton. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Francis, who passed away in 2005. She is survived by her four children: Graham (Barbara) Werner, Naples, FL; Jennings (Gleneta) Werner, Bonita Springs, FL; Michael Werner, Waupun, WI; Lisbeth Bax, Appleton, WI. She is also survived by a nephew, David (Janet) Ortlieb, Colorado Springs, CO, and three nieces, MaryBeth Pickert, Washburn, WI; Nancy (Ralph) Meyberg, Santa Cruz, CA; Jacquelyn (Lee) Scarbrough, Harwichport, MA. She is further survived by 12 grandchildren: Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Werner, Appleton, WI; Gregory (Sara) Werner, Barrington, IL; David (Anne-Marie) Werner, Neenah, WI; Ann (Carl) Kreiter, Oak Park, IL; Brooke Werner, Washington, D.C.; Nathan (Jamie) Werner, Freeport, Bahamas; Hunt (Kimberly) Werner, Charlotte, NC; Judson (Dana) Werner, Waupun, WI; Ryan (Kevin) Bille, Burnsville, MN; Andrew (Brandi) Bax, Auburn, AL; Lindsey Bax, Huntsville, AL; Jonathan Bax, Waupaca, WI. Her 19 great-grandchildren include, Matthew, Megan, Jacob, Hannah, Elizabeth, Graham, Henry, Meredith, Andrew, Riley, Athena, Landon, and Delilah Werner; Maci, Corbyn, and Quinn Bille; and Phyllis, Maxine, and Evelyn Kreiter. The family would like to extend special thanks to Barbara Bloomer, Dr. Orlando Taleon, and the nursing staffs at Touchmark and Home Instead for the gentle care and friendship they have provided for Phyllis. Funeral services for Phyllis were held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Touchmark, 2601 W Touchmark Dr., Appleton, WI 54914. The family greeted friends at a luncheon reception at Riverview Country Club immediately following the service. Burial will be in the Most Precious Blood Cemetery, New London, WI. A memorial fund has been established in Phyllis Werner’s name.
