Bears hand Indians first loss

Bonduel knocked Weyauwega-Fremont from the unbeaten ranks Friday with a 41-25 win over the Indians in a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference football matchup.

Ben Tauchen, Zach Wallace and Cullin Kowalczyk each scored twice as the Bears improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. W-F fell to 1-1 in league play and 3-1 overall.

Spencer Froemming connected with Tauchen for a 6-yard touchdown pass for Bonduel in the first quarter, but the Indians responded with a 1-yard run from Casey Haase.

Bonduel took a 13-7 lead on Wallace’s 4-yard score, but W-F tied the game on Eric Keenan’s 3-yard run.

Tauchen gave the Bears the lead for good on Bonduel’s next drive on a 56-yard run with 1:17 remaining in the first half.

Kowalczyk scored Bonduel’s next two touchdowns on a 3-yard run and a 58-yard interception return to make it 32-13. Keenan connected with Dakota Saase for a 15-yard touchdown at the end of the third quarter, but Wallace capped Bonduel’s scoring with an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Keenan scored from 2 yards out for the Indians’ final points.

The Bears outrushed the Indians 288-231. Haase led W-F’s ground game with 107 yards in 20 attempts. Tauchen led all rushers with 142 yards in 14 attempts.

The Indians had a 77-36 advantage in passing yards. Keenan completed seven of 11 passes. Saase led the way with four catches for 51 yards.

The Indians will host Amherst at 7 p.m. Friday.
