Indians knock off T-Bird girls

Weyauwega-Fremont took three of four games from Iola-Scandinavia Sept. 16 in a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference battle in Weyauwega.

The Indians took the first game 25-23, but the Thunderbirds evened the match with a 26-26 win in the second game. The Indians rebounded with 25-13 and 25-18 wins to pick up the win.

“Iola didn’t give up on the ball and that sent us into a scramble,” W-F coach Rena Tomaszewski said. “We struggled in the first two sets with putting the ball where it needed to be to get the kill.”

Leaders for W-F included Bailey Kapitzke with 11 kills and Dani Johnson and Dacia Goetsch with eight each; Teal Tomaszewski with 14 digs; Kate Wieters and Rachel Knecht with 22 and 17 assists, respectively; Knecht with 14 service points and three aces; Johnson with a pair of solo block kills; and Goetsch with two assisted block kills.

The W-F junior varsity team took two of three games from the T-Birds, 25-10, 23-25, 25-23.
