Preschool Story Hour and Babygarten begin Oct. 7

The ever-popular preschool programs at Sturm Memorial Library will start up again beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7.

Preschool Story Hour will run first, followed by Babygarten at 11 a.m. The two programs will run back-to-back on Thursdays in October and November.

Babygarten is an established program that gives caregivers concrete examples of songs, rhymes, stories and play ideas that will encourage pre-literacy skills in the very young. It prepares babies and toddlers for listening, opening books and turning pages, learning word sounds and expanding vocabulary. This new program was started at the beginning of the year and has had tremendous success in Manawa.

Preschool Story Hour is for youngsters ages 2 to 5 and includes stories, rhymes, music and games to engage participants in the reading life and further enhance the skills children need to learn how to read. This year’s kick-off story hour session also coincides with the national Read for the Record event, so the featured story will be Ezra Jack Keats’ The Snowy Day. Libraries and schools all over the country will be reading this book in a great national read aloud.
