Assault victim expected to live

New London Police Chief Jeff Schlueter reported last week that Christopher Scotto, 28, of New London was still on life support, but expected to live.

Scotto was hospitalized Sept. 17 after he was involved in an altercation with Timothy D. Young, 40, New London.

Young and Scotto were in a skirmish in the Citizens Bank Parking lot shortly after midnight Sept. 17 when Young punched Scotto in the face causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement. Scotto was then taken to NLFMC and later air lifted to Theda Clark Medical Center with a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain.

Young was taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery, disorderly conduct and two counts of felony bail jumping. He faces up to six years in prison if convicted of battery.

According to Schlueter, Young was released last week on a signature bond and living back in the community on house arrest.

Police close out numerous burglaries

Schlueter also reported that the department was able to close out several ongoing theft and burglary cases. He reports that while executing a search warrant for drugs at a New London residence police located numerous stolen items that were linked to five separate burglaries in the city, including the theft of copper from the former Simons Property.

The NLPD were also able to close out seven unrelated burglaries in Hortonville, and they made progress with an ongoing investigation of smash and grabs at area gas stations. “We were able to close out almost $50,000 in thefts and recovered a lot of property from pawnshops throughout the area,” explained Schlueter.
