Spanbauer, Dorothy

Dorothy L. Spanbauer, age 88, Waupaca and Appleton, passed away at Touch-mark on West Prospect, Appleton, on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Dorothy was born in Richmond, Virginia, on May 31, 1922, the daughter of the late Charles and Carlene (Shaut) Woody. On February 20, 1943, she married Edward J. Spanbauer; he preceded her in death on February 20, 2005. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dorothy lived most of her life in Waupaca and relocated to Appleton in 2008. She was a homemaker who loved to play bridge with her friends, golf with Ed and her children, boat with the family on the Chain O’ Lakes in Waupaca and on the Wolf River. Dorothy is survived by her children; Carlene L. (Steve) Cummings; Charles E. Spanbauer and Barbara J. Peterson; her grandchildren, Scott A. Cummings, Steven E. Cummings, Matthew D. Peterson, David J. Peterson, Chelsea A. Spanbauer; and her great-grandchildren, Ava Cummings and Stella Cummings. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Edward J. Spanbauer; and her sister, Carlene (Woody) Gunning. Private memorial services will be held for Dorothy at a later date. A memorial has been established in her name to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
