Runners tune up for conference, sectional meets

Area cross country runners prepared for upcoming conference and sectional meets Oct. 7 at the Don Chase Relays in Weyauwega.

Freedom and Beaver Dam won boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior varsity championships, respectively, while Waupaca and Amherst won middle school titles.

Team times for the varsity boys were Freedom, 1:28:02; Beaver Dam, 1:30:13; Kiel, 1:30:52; Winnebago Lutheran, 1:31:49; Laconia, 1:32:03; Medford, 1:33:23; Amherst, 1:33:54; Little Chute, 1:34:43; Iola-Scandinavia, 1:34:48; Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 1:35:26; Fox Valley Lutheran, 1:35:26; Bonduel, 1:35:33; Weyauwega-Fremont, 1:37:12; Omro, 1:37:21; Wautoma, 1:39:28; Mosinee, 1:39:58; Westfield, 1:41:17; Waupaca, 1:44:02.

Waupaca’s Zach Wheeler led area runners in the AA race, as he placed second in 16:51. Other placers included Ben Hoffman, Iola-Scandinavia, 15th (17:52), Corey Zeutzius, Weyauwega-Fremont, 27th, (18:23); Nickolas Thomas, Weyauwega-Fremont 33rd, (18:44); Westley Peterson, Iola-Scandinavia, 36th (20:15); Ryan Przybylski, Iola-Scandinavia, 43rd (19:08); Tamas Peterson, Iola-Scandinavia, 46th (19:10); Derek Peterson, Iola-Scandinavia, 48th (19.23); Matt Jarosh, Iola-Scandinavia, 50th (20:41); Jeff Servey, Waupaca, 53rd (19:46); Graham Young, Weyauwega-Fremont, 55th (20:01); and Kyle Utecht, Weyauwega-Fremont, 57th, 20:02.

Area finishers in the boys’ A race were John Faldet, Iola-Scandinavia, 11th (19:13); Tony Austreng, Weyauwega-Fremont, 30th (20:00); Gabriel Vassar, Waupaca, 43rd (20:28); Jake Kuenzi, Weyauwega-Fremont, 45th (20:35); Trevor Fitzpatrick, Weyauwega-Fremont, 48th (20:38); Thomas Long, Weyauwega-Fremont, 63rd (21:44); Logan Ader, Waupaca, 68th (22:51); Matt Ellie, Iola-Scandinavia, 69th (23.19); and Shawn Adkins, Waupaca, 70th (24:05).

Team times for the varsity girls were Beaver Dam, 1:22:37; Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 1:22:52; Freedom, 1:23:43; Mosinee, 1:24:23; Kiel, 1:24:46; Weyauwega-Fremont, 1:27:23; Fox Valley Lutheran, 1:29:21; Waupaca, 1:29:28; Laconia, 1:29:37; Amherst, 1:29:49; Iola-Scandinavia, 1:30:48; Medford, 1:31:27; Winnebago Lutheran, 1:31:45; Westfield, 1:32:53; Bonduel, 1:34:45; Omro, 1:37:30.

Iola-Scandinavia’s Emily Sether led area runners in the girls’ AA race by placing 11th in 16:26. Other placers included Alyse Peters, Weyauwega-Fremont, 19th (16:41); Jenni Hellweg, Weyauwega-Fremont, 25th (16:55); Jane Beyer, Weyauwega-Fremont, 28th (17:12); Taylor Fabricius, Waupaca, 30th (17:23); Ellen Schroeder, Weyauwega-Fremont, 32nd (17:34); Autumn Schultz, Waupaca, 33rd (17:40); Natalie Gauerke, Iola-Scandinavia, 38th (17:54); Kathern Haen, Waupaca, 39th (17:55); Abbey Lazers, Waupaca, 45th (18:18); Ellen Oligney, Iola-Scandinavia, 52nd (18:47); and Lindsey Wogsland, Iola-Scandinavia, 61st (19.45).

Area finishes in the girls’ A race were Taylor Davidson, Waupaca, 10th (18:09); Leah Pierce, Iola-Scandinavia, 17th (18:42); Amanda Aanstad, Iola-Scandinavia, 24th (18:56); Arianna Schmitz, Weyauwega-Fremont, 26th, (19:00); Aysia Schroeder, Weyauwega-Fremont, 27th (19:02); Jacci Cuff, Waupaca, 30th (19:14); Charle Koch, Iola-Scandinavia, 33rd (19:17); Izzi Mielke, Waupaca, 35th (19:20); Jackie Beyer, Weyauwega-Fremont (20:03); and Amy Hingeveld, Weyauwega-Fremont, 51st (20:29).

Weyauwega-Fremont had eight boys’ JV runners: James Hoch, eighth (19:38); Zach Volz, 29th (20:40); Jared Gruetzmacher, 53rd (21:59); Dylan Hansen, 55th (22:03); Tyler Hart, 60th (22:15); Jonas Kobiske, 84th (24:29) and Dan Crist, 85th (25:04).

Girls’ JV finishers from W-F were Alisha Kloehn, 15th (20:22); Joanna Schroeder, 30th (21:04); and Kaitie Gilbert, 50th (23:41). Waupaca’s Kaylee Biba also placed 45th in 23:15.

Waupaca had four top-10 finishes in the middle school race. Mitchell Rota (13:37), Eric Bolwerk (13:38) and Ryan Wiese (13:38) placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, among boys, while Macie Davidson placed second in 13:54 and Victoria Nowak was ninth in 15:02 for the girls. W-F’s Caragan Volz also had a top-five finish among girls with a time of 14:19 to place fourth.
