Manawa Telephone Company expands

The Manawa Telephone Company will expand its facilities in 2011.

According to company president Tom Squires, the Manawa Telephone Company has purchased an adjacent building. Plans are to demolish the building always known as the Manawa Theater.

The late Robert Squires was the operating manager of the Manawa Theater from 1947 to 1961. The theater closed and over the next several years the building was used for different purposes from a county business office to real estate to apartments.

“By purchasing the building it gives us an opportunity to expand our services,” Tom Squires explained. “In the next few weeks you will see the building come down and another era will have passed the skyline of Manawa.”

The building will be used to expand the company’s work space.

“We have been cramped for some time with inventory shelving area and current technical work space,” Squires stated. “At this time there will not be any job openings.”

The old theater walls were decorated with drawings, which will not be saved.
