City gets grant for trails

The city of Weyauwega is among the communities throughout the state that will receive funds for transportation, bicycle and pedestrian projects.

On Thursday, Oct. 28, Gov. Jim Doyle announced the $32.5 million in funding for 56 projects.

The city of Weyauwega will receive $278,362 in funding. Wega Trails will complete three trail segment areas within the city boundaries, providing a continuity of trails within the community.

The total cost of the project is expected to be $347,953.

The awards represent Transportation Enhancement, and Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities programs funds distributed to local public sponsors.

Projects require a minimum 20 percent local match. Projects are evaluated based on federal and state eligibility criteria, metropolitan planning organization priorities and recommendations made to the secretary of the state Department of Transportation.
