Kluever, Cyril

Cyril “Cy” Kluever, age 84, loving husband, father, grandfather and teacher died peacefully at St. Joseph Residence in New London on October 25, 2010, following a struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Cy was born on September 16, 1926, in West Bend, son of the late Arthur and Olive (Kirchner) Kluever. On August 13, 1949, he was united in marriage to Joyce Ickstadt. He graduated from UW-River Falls with a degree in teaching. Cy began teaching Biology in the New London School District where he spent his entire career 38 years, retiring in 1989. He was a sports enthusiast, following New London athletics; where he coached basketball, baseball, worked the chain gang for football games and umpired baseball games. He also followed the Packers and the Brewers. He was a charter member of the Grand View Golf Course in Hortonville and also a long time member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, New London. Cy was devoted to his grandchildren. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Kay (Bill) Olson, Appleton; two sons, Ken (Carie) Kluever, Eagle River and Kris (Julaine) Kluever, New London. A sister, Dolores Werner, West Bend. Seven grandchildren, Katy, Kory, and Mary Olson, Zach and Austin Kluever and Grayson and Holden Kluever. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. Funeral services for Cy were held on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London with Rev. Greg Watling officiating. Visitation was held on Thursday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.
