Zempel, Lester R.

Lester R. Zempel, age 88, of Weyauwega, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at Bethany Home in Waupaca. He was born on October 16, 1922, in Weyauwega, son of the late Robert and Ernestine (Schmmelfennig) Zempel. On June 5, 1948 he married Lois Richter at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. He farmed on the family farm in the Town of Weyauwega until he was hurt in the woods at the farm at age 60. Following this, he moved to the City of Weyauwega. Lester was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. He was a volunteer fireman for the Town of Weyauwega for 45 years. He was also active in several farm organizations and was a 4-H leader. Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing and traveling in the U.S., Canada and Mexico after he retired. He would help deliver meals for the Weyauwega Senior Center. He is survived by his wife, Lois, Weyauwega; sons: Robert, and his children Schamara (Sam) and Jan Marie, all of Merrill; William (Caroline) and their children Amber, Desiree’ and Weston, all of Weyauwega; sister: Louella Hoffmann, Milwaukee; sister-in-law: Grace Zempel, Florida and also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lydia Degner and Lauretta Pagel and two brothers, Lawrence Zempel who died in World War II and Leonard Zempel. The Christian Funeral for Lester was held on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 11:00 am. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Weyauwega with Rev. Dennis Lemke and Rev. Robbert Robbert officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Weyauwega. Friends called at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Weyauwega on Sunday, October 31, 2010 from 2-5 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Donations may be made to Building on The Rock fund.
