Carter faces drug, battery charges

Shawn T. Carter, 26, Waupaca, was charged with possession of a controlled substance on Nov. 3 and possession of narcotics, carrying a concealed weapon, battery and bail jumping on Nov. 5.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 16, Waupaca County sheriff’s deputies arrested Carter at his girlfriend’s home on Lind Street in Fremont. He was subsequently charged with endangerment, battery and disorderly conduct.

While waiting at the jail, Carter called his girlfriend and asked about a pack of cigarettes that had been on a handrail. According to the criminal complaint, the woman asked Carter if there were pills in the cigarette pack and he said yes. The conversation from the jail phone was monitored and recorded.

On the afternoon of Sept. 16, Fremont Police Officer Richard Bodway went to the woman’s home. She reportedly gave him a pack of cigarettes, inside of which were 29 beige pills later identified as amphetamines.

On Oct. 27, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Julie Thobaben was dispatched to the woman’s home in Fremont. The woman had called and said her boyfriend was beating her.

Paramedics took the woman to Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca where she was treated for her injuries.

The woman told police that Carter had called her more than 50 times that day. When she answered the phone, he allegedly threatened to kill her.

According to the criminal complaint, Carter came to the woman’s home, took her cell phone from her, threw her home phone against the wall, dragged her out of the front door and kicked her while she was prone on the ground.

Shortly after midnight Oct. 31, Deputy Jon Loken and Waupaca Police Officers Mario Graceffa and Andy Hopfensperger arrested Carter at Weasels bar. They reported finding brass knuckles and oxycodone pills in his possession.
