New London man charged with felony OWI

Patrick L. Hawkinson, 40, New London, was charged Nov. 3 with a fifth drunken driving offense. He faces up to six years in prison if convicted of felony drunken driving.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Sept. 11, New London Police Officer Josh Wilson was on patrol when he was advised of a hit-and-run involving a blue Ford pickup truck registered to Hawkinson. Wilson observed a pickup truck with the same license plate number traveling west on Northridge Drive. The officer reported that Hawkinson was driving the truck and smelled of alcohol. Wilson also noted fresh marks on the bumper.

According to the criminal complaint, Hawkinson had a 0.204 blood-alcohol level at the time of his arrest. Hawkinson was convicted of drinking and driving offenses in January 1998, October 1999, July 2000 and May 2004.
