The threat of invasive species to Mirror and Shadow lakes will be the topic when the Friends of Mirror and Shadow Lakes holds a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the Holly History and Genealogy Center in Waupaca.
The creation of management strategies for aquatic invasive species will also begin at the meeting.
Paul Skawinski, invasive species coordinator for Golden Sands Resource Conservation and Development, will present information about what aquatic invasive species could be potentially threatening Mirror and Shadow lakes, what can be done to prevent Mirror and Shadow lakes from becoming infested, and how the Golden Sands RC&D might be able to assist.
The committee, professionals and any interested citizens will spend the remainder of the meeting outlining goals, objectives and action items related to aquatic invasive species in the Mirror and Shadow Lakes Management Plan.
Creating management strategies for aquatic invasive species that threaten Mirror and Shadow lakes allows the Friends of Mirror and Shadow Lakes and the planning committee to take proactive steps to continue to protect Mirror and Shadow lakes.
Any interested citizen is encouraged to participate in the Mirror and Shadow Lakes management planning process.
“The presence of aquatic invasive species in Mirror and Shadow lakes will eventually interfere with fishing in the lakes. We hope some of our local fishermen will get involved with this planning process,” said Tom Eddy, who is the coordinator of the Clean Boats, Clean Waters program for Friends of Mirror and Shadow Lakes.
