Robo calls seek card numbers

Customers of local banks reported Monday, Nov. 29, that they had received automated calls requesting information about their debit cards, according to Detective Sgt. Brian Hoelzel with the Waupaca Police Department.

The calls came in on both home phones and cell phones. The automated call indicated that the bank customers’ Visa debit card had been suspended. It then asked for the 16-digit card number and pin number.

The call did not identify which bank it represented.

“If you receive a phone call like this, do not give any of your bank information over the phone,” Hoelzel said. “If you have, please contact your financial institution immediately.”
