James J. Fitzsimons, 40, New London, was charged Nov. 29 with a fourth drunken driving offense.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Oct. 27, New London Police Officer Carl Ruckdashel was on patrol in an unmarked squad car when he observed a brown Chevy drive over the grass as it turned into the parking lot at Festival Foods.
The driver, identified as Fitzsimons, had a reported 0.218 blood-alcohol level.
Fitzsimons was previously convicted of drinking-and-driving offenses in April 2001, November 2006 and March 2007. He faces up to six years in prison if convicted of felony operating while intoxicated.
