Lady Bulldogs pile points on Shawano

The Lady BulldogS put on a good show for fans last Friday night with a commanding 66-30 win over the visiting Hawks. The Bulldogs jumped out to an impressive 21-6 lead after one quarter of play en route to a 37-16 lead at halftime.

The third quarter showed a stifling New London defense as they held Shawano to only one point. Double digit numbers was a reoccurring event three Lady Bulldogs scored double digits with Bridget Pethke leading the way with 15 points followed by Tara Knapstein and Junior Emily Steffanus with 14 each.

Bridget Pethke, Kayla Schuh, and Emily Steffanus each had two three-point baskets on the night.

Tara Knapstein and Coral Managan each had one three-pointer for a season high eight three-pointers in a single game. Bulldogs converted 6 out of 10 free-throws for 60 percent. The varsity Bulldogs are now 5-2 and 2-1 in the Bay.

The Ladies will take a week and a half long break from competition then travel to face old rival Clintonville for the Annual Holiday Classic Games at Clintonville. JV Girls will start at 2 p.m. with freshman following at 3:30 varsity will tip off at 6 p.m. JV is off to a 7-0 start under third year Coach Mike Waldovgel.

The freshman are greatly improving from a rocky 0-3 start to 2-3 on the year under fourth year Coach Pete Jensema.

Luxemburg-Casco Loss

The Lady Bulldogs took it to the floor with Bay Conference Contender Luxemburg-Casco last week Tuesday but fell 42-51.

The game stayed within two points until midway through the fourth quarter when fouls began to hurt New London resulting in Luxemburg-Casco hitting baskets from the free throw line. Luxemburg was able to knock in 19 free throws throughout the game which ultimately led to the higher margin.

Turnovers also proved costly for the Bulldogs, who turned it over on many possessions throughout the game which led to the Spartans scoring drives. Bridget Pethke paced the Bulldogs with 12 Points followed by Tara Knapstein with nine. Free throws were rather impressive for the Bulldogs shooting 90% missing only one shot on the night.
