Wreaths Across America pays tribute to veterans

Maj. Chris Klein, with the Fox Cities Composite Squadron, participated in the laying of Wreaths Across America at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Seven wreaths were placed giving tribute to each branch of service.

“The mission of the project is to remember the fallen, honor those who served, and teach our children the value of freedom,” Klein said.

Klein has been laying the wreaths in King for the past five years.

The Wreaths Across America story began over 15 years ago when a wreath company began a tradition of placing wreaths on the headstones at Arlington National Cemetery during the holidays. Over that 15-year period, 90,000 wreaths were placed by volunteers in a wreath laying ceremony each December.

This December, over 500 locations across the country placed 200,000 wreaths.
