Asher scores five goals in Waupaca’s latest win

The Fox Cities Stars hockey team did not have an answer for Bjorn Asher.

The Waupaca Comet scored half of his team’s goals Thursday, Dec. 23, in a 10-2 nonconference win on the Stars’ home rink.

He added an assist to go along with his five goals, as the Comets scored three times in the first period, four times in the second and three times in the third.

Cooper Flesch, Hunter Vezina, Tyler Donaldson, Brad Navin and Eli Coenen also scored for Waupaca. Donaldson finished with a team-high four assists; Beau Ash, Jordan Erickson and Navin chipped in with a pair each; and Marcus Johnson, Caleb Kiesow and Jared Erickson added one apiece.

Waupaca outshot the Stars 37-12 and improved to 8-1 on the season.

The Comets will travel to Eagle River Monday, Jan. 3, for a 7 p.m. makeup game with Northland Pines before hosting Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha the following day at the Waupaca Expo Center.

Waupaca will also take on Mosinee at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, in the first round of the Sentry Classic at the K.B. Willett Arena in Stevens Point. Stevens Point and Green Bay United are also in the tournament and will play at 7:30 p.m. Consolation and championship games are set for Saturday, Jan. 8.
