Bohman charged with sexual assault of child

A Waupaca man who was charged in July with 25 counts of possession of child pornography returned to court Tuesday, Dec. 21, to face a felony charge of first-degree sexual assault of a child and felony bail jumping.

Joseph A. Bohman, 51, Waupaca, is accused of inappropriately touching a 6-year-old girl while her mother was at the hospital emergency room for treatment of an injury.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl told investigators, “When he did something bad to me he said to keep it a secret.”

Bohman has denied having sexual contact with the girl.

In August, Bohman was released from custody on a $15,000 signature bond after the child porn charges were filed.

On Dec. 21, Judge Philip Kirk set a $15,000 cash bond as a condition for Bohman’s release from custody.

Bohman was convicted of first-degree sexual assault of a child in Outagamie County in 1993 and is a registered sex offender.

He faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted of first-degree sexual assault of a child and up to 25 years in prison on each count if convicted of possession of child pornography.
