Suprise, Isla A.

Isla A. Flink Suprise, age 82 of New London, formerly of the Township of Union, Waupaca County, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the St. Joseph Residence, New London. Isla was born on June 19, 1928, the tenth child of twelve in the Township of Maple Creek, Outagamie County, the daughter of the late John and Mabel (Burton) Stilen. She also was raised in the Township of Maple Creek. Isla later met Harold E. Flink at a dance at Pleasant View in the Township of Deer Creek, Outagamie County. They married on August 31, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New London. The couple lived and farmed in the Township of Union for thirty years. Harold preceded his wife in death in 1977. Isla married Darwin Suprise in 1979 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Symco. Isla continued to live in the Township of Union until she moved to Clintonville and then to New London. Darwin preceded her in death in 2001. Isla had worked for Service Master in Clintonville and then for the Waupaca County Dept. of Health & Human Services until retirement in 1993. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Symco where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Isla also enjoyed farming, gardening, baking, canning, dancing and singing. Decorating and preparing for the holidays was her specalilty. Although Isla had her trials and battled with health problems the last seventeen years, she maintained a positive, faith filled life with her great sense of humor. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include: Her daughter: Tammy (Kenneth) Evers, New London; Her step-daughter: Connie (Robert) Leopold, Black Creek; Her step-sons: Daniel (Diane) Suprise, Stanton, MI; James (Jean) Suprise, Mt. Home, ID; Her grandchildren: Timothy, Michelle & Kristin Evers; Her sisters: Vaiden Peeters, Bear Creek; Jeanette McGlone, Shiocton; Marie Gluth & Lucille Pietz, Clintonville; Her brother: Joseph (Marcille) Stilen, Shiocton; Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Harold & Darwin, her daughter, Debbie in 1972, 2 sisters, Marjorie Peeters & Lillian McGlone and 4 brothers, Gordon, Ira, Merlin & Virgil Stilen. Funeral services were held 11 A.M. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Symco with the Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. Interment was in the Marble Cemetery, Township of Union, Waupaca County. Friends called from 4 until 8 P.M. Monday at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville and after 10 A.M.
