Truckers stall in fourth quarter

The Winneconne Wolves took a 67-54 win from the Clintonville Trucker boys’ varsity basketball team on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

Though Clintonville trailed by just two points heading into the fourth quarter, they couldn’t come back for the win in the final frame.

The first quarter saw both teams score 12 points, but the Wolves outscored the Truckers 19-13 in the second quarter to take a 31-25 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Clintonville outscored Winneconne 21-17 to climb within two points heading into the fourth quarter. The Wolves picked up the pace in the final frame while the Trucker offense stalled, as they were outscored 8-19. Winneconne left with a 67-54 win over Clintonville.

Patrick VanDaalwyk scored 32 points and had nine rebounds for Clintonville, while Xavier Fletcher added five points and 10 rebounds. Colin Moon added three points, while Jake Riemer, Justin Reiter, Aaron Schmidt, Garrick Morgan, Joe Hauser, Mike Fisher, and James Simpson each scored two.

For the game, Clintonville shot 40 percent from the field, but managed to shoot just 28.6 percent in the fourth quarter. Conversely, Winneconne shot 43.4 percent from the field and 54.5 percent in the final frame. Winneconne also made 40.9 percent of their shots from 3-point range, while Clintonville made 33.3 percent. Clintonville shot 71.4 percent from the free-throw line, while Winneconne shot 75 percent from the charity stripe.

The Truckers out-rebounded the Wolves 33-28, and the teams each had 13 assists.
