Laundromat catches fire

The Clintonville Fire Department was paged out to a structure fire at the Laundromat located at 149 S. Main Street after a police officer on patrol discovered the fire at 2:46 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4.

One resident sleeping in an apartment next door was awakened and evacuated by police.

Clintonville firefighters responded to the scene and later received mutual aid assistance from the Marion Fire Department.

The interior of the laundromat was totally engulfed and is considered a total loss. The fire was brought under control by 3:30 a.m., but overhaul of the scene continued until mid-morning. Ambulance personnel were paged out to stand by, but there were no reported injuries.

The direct cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and the matter remains under investigation.
