Waupaca woman charged with forgery

Julia M. Conley, 21, Waupaca, was charged with two counts of forgery uttering.

On Dec. 31, a Waupaca woman told police that someone stole two checks from her checkbook and cashed them at the truck stop. The checks were for $70 and $68.

The woman said two friends from high school had visited her home about a week prior to the checks being used without her permission. One of the friends had been Conley.

Waupaca Police Officer Diana Flatoff went to the truck stop with copies of the checks. She met with an employee and the owner. They identified the person who cashed the checks as Conley because she was a former employee and a security camera videotaped her in the store at the time the checks were cashed.

Conley, who was convicted of misdemeanor theft on Oct. 29, 2010, was taken into custody on a probation hold. According to the criminal complaint, she told Flatoff that she had fallen behind on her rent and grabbed the checks from her friend’s purse.
