Town may abandon three roads

The Iola Town Board voted to pursue abandonment of the three town roads – Forest Road, Aronson Lane and Town Road 43.

The abandonment is being considered due to lack of proper turnaround space for winter plowing and the unwillingness of the adjoining property owners to grant proper access. Pending a resolution to be voted on at January’s town meeting, a public hearing will be held in February to consider the abandonment.

In other action, it was announced the town of Iola will hold a caucus Jan. 31 to nominate candidates for the town offices including chairman, supervisor No. 1, supervisor No. 2, clerk and treasurer. Incumbents seeking another term are Chairman Larry Thoe, Supervisor No. 1 Greg Blum, Supervisor No. 2 Bruce Faldet, Clerk Mark Forseth and Treasurer Denis Walter.

The following slate of election workers was approved for Ann Forseth, chief inspector; Carol Walter; Merlin Meyer; Sharon Anderson; and Helen Kimpel.

The board voted to increase the hourly wage paid to the town’s tractor and mower operator to $15.
