Trucks ground Comets 49-43

A strong second half helped the Trucker boys’ varsity basketball team earn a 49-43 win over the Waupaca Comets on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Waupaca jumped out to a 15-8 lead after one quarter but Clintonville battled back in the second to narrow the halftime deficit to one point, 24-25.

The Truckers outscored Waupaca 15-7 in the third quarter to take the lead for good. The fourth quarter saw Waupaca score 11 while Clintonville scored 10 to earn the victory.

Patrick VanDaalwyk led the Trucks with 19 points. Xavier Fletcher added nine, while Greg Kriewaldt and Jake Riemer each scored six. Tyler Sawall added five points while Justin Reiter and Mike Fisher both scored two.

Clintonville shot 39.2 percent from the field, while the Comets made 36.5 percent of their shots. The Truckers were 13.3 percent from 3-point range, while Waupaca was 17.6 percent from beyond the arc.

The Truckers shot 58.3 percent from the free-throw line, while Waupaca made 66.7 percent of their shots from the stripe. The Truckers out-rebounded the Comets 34-25.

The boys’ next home game will be Thursday, Jan. 20 against Berlin. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
