Town board approves cell tower

Approval for a cell tower was granted by the Scandinavia Town Board at its Dec. 13, 2010, meeting.

The board discussed the proposed 300-foot wireless cell tower on the Sarah Adams property. The proposed line-of-sight tower will be used by the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Interoperable System for Communications, and Wisconsin Forestry Department.

Waupaca County Sheriff Brad Hardel reported that currently WCSD has portable coverage in 62 percent of the county. He said the goal in adding this tower is to get that coverage area up to 99 percent.

Also present at the meeting were Andy Carlin, Waupaca County Emergency Management; Doug Meyer, DNR; and Leonard Cane, consulting engineer and designer of the upgraded radio system.

Chairman Gary Marx reported that the Planning Commission recommended approval of a variance for a 300-foot tower. The board approved building of the tower.

The road issues discussed included the plowing of Silver Lake Road by the county, and the plowing issue on the last 200 feet of Blaine Street. More road signs are gone or knocked down. The culvert work on Bestul Road has been completed.

It was reported that the Scandinavia Booster Club received a bank note for debt consolidation.

The board agreed to jointly purchase the 1987 Pierce backup pumper truck with the Scandinavia Fire Department and village of Scandinavia. Firetruck insurance was reviewed, and a recommendation was made to put the property and vehicle insurance coverage on the agenda for the 2011 joint meeting of the town and village for further review.

Frank P. Bauer Jr. took official oath of office as town supervisor.
