Big first half lifts Indians over Pacelli

A strong first half added up to a win Friday, Jan. 28, for the Weyauwega-Fremont girls’ basketball team.

The Indians outscored Stevens Point Pacelli 34-3 in the first half and rolled to a 57-26 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win over the Cardinals.

W-F also fell to Bonduel 48-45 Tuesday, Jan. 25, on the Bears’ home court.

W-F outscored the Cardinals 12-3 in the first quarter and 22-0 in the second quarter.

Jenni Hellweg scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half and also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Ellen Schroeder also finished in double figures with 12 points while Morgan Wilson added eight.

Bonduel 48, W-F 45

BONDUEL – The Bears prevailed in a matchup of two of the three teams tied for first place in the CWC-8 standings.

W-F led 15-14 after one quarter and took a 10-point halftime lead with a 13-4 advantage in the second quarter.

The Bears cut into the lead by outscoring the Indians 17-10 in the third quarter and outscored W-F 13-7 over the final eight minutes.

Karisa Petersen hit the game-winning shot, a three-pointer, with 10 seconds remaining.

Hellweg led the Indians with 16 points, while Wilson and Macey Schoenick added nine and seven, respectively.

The Indians will travel to Iola tonight (Thursday, Feb. 3) for a rematch with the Thunderbirds before hosting Shiocton Friday, Feb. 11.
