Event to benefit Smith family

Bear Lake Resort will be hosting the John Smith Family Benefit, Saturday, Feb. 5, beginning at 1 pm. The evening’s events will include a 301 Dart Tournament, Buffet Dinner and Music; in addition to a silent auction and raffle.

John Smith, owner of Manawa Steakhouse, was injured in a hunting accident on November 8th of 2010, when he fell from his tree stand sustaining multiple injuries to his back and neck. Airlifted to Theda Clark Medical Center, in Neenah, where he spent eleven days, undergoing back surgery and treatment for bleeding around his heart and ears. At the time of the accident, Smith did not have any insurance. Due to the magnitude of his injuries, the family is faced with many medical bills, which will take more than a lifetime to pay.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and my family during this extremely difficult time,” states John. “Watching my family, friends and several communities rally around us has been very overwhelming and extremely rewarding.”

John has been walking around with a walker for a couple months now. He was told by doctors that his broken vertebrates are healing straight, so there are no foreseeable surgeries in the future. “I still have many obstacles to overcome, but I am very grateful for the progress that I have made.”

Registration for the dart tournament will begin at 1 p.m… Registration is $10 per person. The 301 dart tournament will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the buffet dinner from 5-9 p.m. and music from 8 p.m. – midnight. Ticket costs are $20 per person; which includes one raffle ticket, dinner and music. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at the following locations: Manawa Steakhouse, Mike & Sandy’s and Baylake Bank of Manawa. Or the Landing Strip and Julies Crystal Lounge of Waupaca. For more information, call Bear Lake Resort at (920) 596-3940.

Let’s come together as a community and make this benefit a huge success, and expressions of love, for the Smith family in their time of need.
