Alft, Edna

Edna Alft, age 97, of Kansas City, KS, formerly of Manawa, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011. She was born on November 6, 1913, in the Town of Little Wolf, daughter of the late August and Minna (Fritchie) Gregorius, the youngest of nine siblings all since deceased. On September 30, 1930 she married Alvin Adam Alft. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1982. They had three children: Elaine, who died in infancy, Allan and Dona. After living in Cambridge and Burlington. Wisconsin, they returned to Manawa in 1962. Edna was a clerk in several stores and Alvin was a police officer and crossing guard. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church while in Manawa, and St. Paul’s Lutheran while in Baraboo. She moved to Baraboo in 1993 to be near her daughter and then moved to Kansas City, KS in 2007. She is survived by her son Allan (Patricia), Shawnee, KS and Brownsville, TX; daughter Dona (Alvin) Carlson, Wisconsin Dells; nine grandchildren: Mark (Jean), Wichita, KS; Nadine (Lyle) Hopp, Marshall,TX; Bryan, Phenix City, AL; Michael (Karen) Cable, Helena MT; Gregg (Heidi) Cable, Ozark, MO; Diane Grubb, Jacksonville, FL; Edwin (Jane), Kansas City, KS; Elise Alft, Shawnee, KS; Rochelle (Jason) Cannon, Shawnee, KS; 26 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; also a sister-in-law Wilma Holman, Delevan. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband and an infant daughter. The funeral service for Edna will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Tom Theama officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Symco in the spring. Friends may call at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 4-6 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
