Jahsman, Allen A.

Allen A. Jahsman, age 91, of Manawa, died on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Manawa Community Nursing Center. He was born on January 1, 1920 in the Town of Union, Waupaca County, son of the late Albert and Roside (Scheve) Jahsman. On June 1, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Schwanke at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco. Allen proudly served his country in the U.S. army from 1940 until 1945 in World War II. He was in the Red Arrow Division and the 127th infantry where he served four tours of duty in the Pacific Southwest. He was awarded several decorations including the Bronze Star. Al served in Australia, New Guinea, East Indies and the Philippines. His children agree his stories describing his life as a Tech Sergeant in New Guinea were among there favorite childhood memories. Al was a member of the Manawa Fire Department for over 50 years, acting as their radio operator for over 30 years. He was a Sherriff Department deputy for twenty years as a dispatcher. Allen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa and served on the church Finance Committee for many years. He was employed for 33 years as a mechanic and service manager at the Ford Garage in Manawa until his retirement in 1982. He loved his part time employment driving cars for various car dealerships including Northport Motors, Midtown Motors, Plach and also Block. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and also playing cards at the Manawa Senior Center. Survivors include a son: Daniel (Sharon) Jahsman, Austin, TX; daughter: Kay (David) Gartzke, Manawa; sister-in-law: Hazel Jahsman, Appleton; step-grandchildren: Justin Duell, Menasha; Michelle (Luke) Van Abel, Japan; Amanda Duell, Florida. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister Geraldine, two brothers Luverne and Earl Jahsman, sister-in-law Irene Jahsman, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vilas (Toni) Schwanke, his father and mother-in-law William and Mina Schwanke. The funeral service for Allen will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa with Rev. Wally Waite officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Symco. Friends may call at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
