Petersen, Kenneth

Kenneth Petersen, of Waupaca, age 84, passed away on Friday, April 08, 2011, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King, where he had been a resident since 2009. He was born in Neenah, Wisconsin, on January 2, 1927, the son of the late Anton and Agnes (Terp) Petersen. He served in the United States Army at Clark Air Force base in the Philippines in World War II. He married Barbara Williamsen of Appleton, on June 24, 1952. Barbara preceded him in death on August 16, 1988. He worked at Kimberly Clark Lakeview Mill in Neenah, from 1947 until his retirement in 1989. He married Donna Gerhardt, formerly of Neenah, currently of Waupaca, on July 16, 1993. In addition to his loving wife Donna, He is survived by three siblings: Lorraine, Victor and Darlene Petersen, all of Neenah. He and his first wife Barbara, are survived by their two children, Dan (Nancy) Petersen, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Margie Petersen (Thomas) White of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Robert Bergman of Appleton, along with his step-children; Daniel (Sue) Gerhardt of Ronan, Montana, Jeffrey (Leslie) Gerhardt of Athens, Wisconsin, Jacqueline (Brian) Erdmann of Fremont and Jennifer (Mark) Thomsen of Waupaca. He is survived by many loving grandchildren: Colleen and Patrick White, Drew Petersen, Lucas and Cole Gerhardt, Andrea (Gerhardt) Hoffman, Brittany (partner Jeff Jorgenson) Gerhardt, Christopher (Emily) Gerhardt, Kayla (Kevin) Casperson, and Lauren and Ella Thomsen. He is survived by two great grandchildren, Gage and Tatum Hoffman.

Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and playing with his grandchildren. He was an avid musky fisherman, and proudly displayed a trophy fish at his home, a 31 lb., 50 inch musky, caught on Yellow Birch Lake in Eagle River, Wisconsin in 1975. He was the Treasurer of the Twin City Rod and Gun Club and a member of Ducks Unlimited for many years. During the years he lived on Sunrise Bay in Neenah, he enjoyed duck hunting with friends and family in his own duck blind on the shore of Lake Winnebago. In 2001, Ken and Donna moved to their home on the Waupaca Chain of Lakes, where they enjoyed riding in their pontoon boat and swimming in the lake with friends and family. Visitation was held on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 10am at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 153 County Road QQ in King, Wisconsin,and was followed by funeral services with military honors at 11am and a luncheon. The services will be officiated by Reverend Dave Martin. Memorial contributions can be made in Ken’s name to the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, N2665 County Road QQ, King, WI 54946. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
