Lady Bulldogs shut out Phantoms and Redbirds

The Bulldogs were slated to play Freedom Monday but with winter like weather looming for Tuesday forced the Bulldogs to play its Tuesday opponent on Monday.

The Bulldogs fared well earning a 7-0 win over West De Pere. It was a pitcher’s duel the 1st few innings as the Phantoms put up two, three up three down innings.

The game broke loose in the third inning when Emily Wilfuer reached on an error. Wilfuer advanced to second base on an Emily Steffanus sacrifice bunt and Kelsey Fassbender drove her in on a single.

Lexy Zaddack also reached on a single and Jamie Siewert reached on a fielder’s choice. Niki Euhardy drove Fassbender in on a single. Phantoms pitcher Emma Leaumann walked Emily Gorges with the bases loaded to drive the next run in. The Bulldogs held a 3-0 advantage.

Gorges would be tagged out on a Brooke Fitzgerald fielder’s choice, but Siewert came home to score upping the lead to 4-0.

The Bulldogs added one more in the fourth inning when Wilfuer reached on an error and was later driven in on a Zaddack Single.

The final two runs came in the fifth inning when Euhardy hit a leadoff single. She was later driven in on a Kendra Krueger single. Krueger scored on an error.

Pitching was outstanding as Emily Gorges pitched the full seven innings, struck out 9, allowed 1 hit, walked 1 and hit 1 batter. Leading offense figures for the Bulldogs were Lexy Zaddack 2×3, Niki Euhardy 2×3, and Emily Wilfuer 2×3 2 runs scored. Six players each had 1 RBI.

The Bulldogs sit at 5-1 overall and 1-1 in The Bay Conference.

Depending on the weather the Bulldogs will travel to Marinette Thursday April 21 and host Defending State Champion Luxemburg-Casco Monday April 25 then travel to Hortonville April 26.

Oconto Falls 2 New London 0

Cold and windy weather did not factor well for the Bulldogs in a 2-0 conference loss to Oconto Falls last Friday.

Lexy Zaddack led the game off with a double off the wall but it would be New London’s only hit of the game as Oconto Falls Freshman left handed pitcher McKenna Larsen was lights out the rest of the way striking out 6. The game was scorless until the fifth inning with two outs Falls’ Kari Patenaude got on base with a single and later was driven in off a Samantha Brasier double. Brasier was then driven in by a Larsen Double.

Larsen a clutch leadoff hitter belted two hits off Emily Gorges in 3 at bats. New London would have two more base runners in the game as Emily Wilfuer took a walk and Jamie Siewert reached on an error. Gorges allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 3.

At DePere the Bulldogs allowed only one hit in a 6-0 shutout victory over the Redbirds last week Tuesday. The scoring started in the third inning when Niki Euhardy led off with a single. Emily Steffanus would also single putting two on for Emily Wilfuer. Wilfuer doubled to drive in Euhardy, and later was able to score on a groundout play by Kendra Krueger.

The Bulldogs scored again in the third inning when Lexy Zaddack hit a leadoff single, later to be driven in on a Niki Euhardy single giving New London 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs scored again in the fifth inning, Jamie Siewert singled and was advanced to second base on a Euhardy Fielder’s Choice, then later she was driven in on a Brooke Fitzgerald single.

Kansas Walbruck walked to start the sixth inning, then Zaddack and Gorges got on base to load them up for Brooke Fitzgerald who knocked in an RBI Single.

The Bulldogs would add an insurance run in the seventh after Emily Wilfuer singled, stole second base, and scored on a Lexy Zaddack single.

The Bulldogs roughed up Redbirds Pitcher Erika Rabas who got three innings of work giving up 3 runs, 5 hits and struck out 3. Haley Salava finished the game allowing 3 runs, 8 hits, walked 3 and struck out 1. Emily Gorges pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs giving up 1 hit, walking none and striking out 7. Leading figures for the offense were Emily Wilfuer 3×4 2B, Lexy Zaddack 3×5, Niki Euhardy 2×4, Brooke Fitzgerald 2×4 2 RBI.
