Sturgeon spawning has started along the Sturgeon Trail on Cty. Hwy. X in New London.
Spawning has been intermittently witnessed during the past couple of weeks; however, the official spawn has now begun. The Department of Natural Resources agent predicts that activity will continue through the weekend, but it is ultimately up to Mother Nature.
Corinne Sommer of the New London Chamber of Commerce notes that the Sturgeon Trail portion of Cty. Hwy. X will be closed from 9 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, , due to the inaugural Sturgeon Shuffle, a foot race. Those who are planning to visit New London to witness spawning should plan their visit around this event.
