Wasrud, Lila M.

Lila M. Wasrud, 83, of Iola, died on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011 at the Ellefson House in Iola. Lila was born in Town of St. Lawrence, Waupaca County, on June 29, 1927, the daughter of the late Maynard and Agnes (Nelson) Knutson. She was united in marriage to Philip Wasrud on October 2, 1948 in Iola. They operated a dairy farm in the Town of Helvetia until 1981. Philip preceded her death on July 26, 1988.

Lila graduated from Iola High School in 1946. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, and various women’s groups in church and the community. She had been involved in the 4-H program. Lila enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafting, which she gave many of the stuffed animals she made to her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow up. She was good at connecting with everyone she met. Lila liked getting to know people, talking about family and local history with them. She is survived by: Her Children: James Wasrud, Iola. Gene (Cindy) Wasrud, Iola. Jamey (Jason) Karnitz, WI Rapids. Jon (Katie) Wasrud, St. Paul, MN. Kari (Tom) Riley, Amherst. Paul (Joni) Eisentraut, Waupaca. April (John) Bartel, Scandinavia. Benjamin Wasrud, Iola. Amanda Wasrud, Plover. Daniel Wasrud, Waupaca. Nine Great Grandchildren. Sister: Murnell (Gerald) Olsen, Scandinavia. Nieces: Annette Olsen and Lori (Wynn) Taube. She was preceded in death by; her mother, Agnes in 1944, an infant son in 1951, her father, Maynard in 1980, and her stepmother, Verna Knutson. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 6, 2011 @ 2:00 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Friends called Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery.
