Comets hand Foxes first loss

WAUPACA – Waupaca and Appleton Xavier each picked up a win Monday, May 16, in an Eastern Valley Conference softball doubleheader at Waupaca High School.

The Comets used a four-run fourth inning to defeat the Hawks 6-2 in the opener, while Xavier handed the Comets a 12-2 defeat in the second game.

Waupaca also picked up an 8-5 win Friday, May 13, over Fox Valley Lutheran.

WAUPACA – Pitcher Emerie Vasquez scattered seven hits to get the win on the mound.

Emily Nelson had two of Waupaca’s eight hits.

Xavier 12, Waupaca 2

WAUPACA – Xavier pitcher Kristen Goeser helped her team on the mound and at the plate, as she belted a grand slam during a seven-run third inning. She also held the Comets to four hits.

Taylor Grenlie had two hits to lead the Comets.

Waupaca 8, FVL 5

APPLETON – The Comets and Foxes went into the seventh inning tied at 3-3, but Waupaca scored five times in the frame to hand FVL its first loss of the season.

Carli Navin and Grenlie each had two of Waupaca’s eight hits, while Nelson homered and Jolene Borntrager picked up the win on the mound.

The second game was suspended due to darkness after seven innings with the score tied at 7-7.
