Davis, Virginia I.

Virginia I. Davis, age 91, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, WI. She was born August 7, 1919, in Chicago, IL; daughter of George A. and Loretto M. (McGrane) Benson, Sr. On June 4, 1938, Virginia married Stanley H. Davis, Sr. in Barrington, IL. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2002. Virginia and Stan lived most of their lives in Lake Zurich, IL where they owned and operated Stan’s Auto Service. Virginia was very proud of the fact that she was able to help her husband around the auto shop, especially when she drove tow truck. After they left the Illinois area, they moved to Princeton, WI, where they resided for 27 years. They then moved to Waupaca, in 2001. Virginia was a devoted Catholic. She loved to cook, can, and bake at home. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Virginia also loved her poodle companions. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends. Grandchildren; Jeff Davis of San Francisco, CA, James (Tracey) Davis, of Fayetteville, TN, Patricia Davis, of Murfeesboro, TN, Julie (fiance, Al Schacht) Meyer, of Amherst, WI, Dale Meyer of Almond, WI, Richard Brodnan of Waupaca, WI, Great-Grandchildren; Mindy Chapman, of Waupaca, WI, Elizabeth Davis, Garrett Davis, and Bennett Davis of Fayetteville, TN, Brother; Randal Benson of Crystal Lake, IL, Sister-in-law; Marilyn Benson of Glen Ellyn, IL.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Loretto Benson, Sr.; her husband, Stanley Davis, Sr.; a son, Stanley Davis, Jr.; three brothers, George, Buddy, and James Benson; and one sister, Grace (Bill) Battista. A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at 10:30 A.M., at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Community in Waupaca, WI. Father Brian Belongia presided. A visitation was held on Monday evening, May 23, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M., at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca. A visitation was also held on Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M., at the church. Burial was at Badger Cemetery in the Town of Lanark, following the mass on Tuesday. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
