Legion baseball team snaps seven-game skid

The Waupaca Legion baseball team snapped a seven-game losing streak Thursday, July 7, with an 11-0 win over Seymour.

“Since the Fourth of July break, the boys have come back with a new positive attitude and have responded with much better baseball performances,” coach Kevin Moore said. “We have gone 1-2 since the holiday, but have shown drastic improvements in all areas of the game. We’ve had much better pitching performances from Josh Houtman, Joe Nelson and Kevin Moe.”

Moe allowed only one hit in the Seymour win.

“Offensively, we have improved hitting performances and balls have simply started falling for us,” Moore said. “Josh Houtman, Seth Deuman, Jake Reedy and Joe, Jesse and Sean Nelson have been standing out at the plate as well as Beau Ash, who has hit two home runs this week, including a grand slam against Seymour.”

Waupaca will open tournament play at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, in Kimberly against Kimberly.

The winner of the double-elimination tournament advances to the state tournament, which begins Thursday, July 28, in Tomah.
