Regional play under way
Area American Legion baseball teams now know where they will compete in their respective regional tournament.
Waupaca, New London and Hortonville will head to a Class AA regional in Kimberly with Kaukauna, Kimberly and Menasha.
First-round pairings Friday, July 22, are Menasha vs. New London at 3 p.m., Hortonville vs. Kaukauna at 5:30 p.m. and Kimberly vs. Waupaca at 8 p.m. The schedule for Saturday, July 23, is game 1 loser vs. game 2 loser at 2 p.m., game 1 winner vs. game 3 loser at 5 p.m. and game 2 winner vs. game 3 winner at 8 p.m.
Weyauwega-Fremont will head to a Class A regional in Tomahawk with Black River Falls, Marathon, Mosinee, Nekoosa and Tomahawk. The schedule for today (Thursday, July 21) is W-F vs. Nekoosa at 1 p.m., Marathon vs. Mosinee at 4 p.m. and Black River Falls vs. Tomahawk at 7 p.m. If W-F beats Nekoosa, W-F would play at 1 p.m. July 22. If W-F loses, it would play at 10 a.m. July 22.
Clintonville, Manawa and Marion/Tigerton will travel to Keshena for a Class A regional that also includes Bonduel, Menominee and Wittenberg. First-round games, played Wednesday, July 20, were Manawa vs. Wittenberg, Marion/Tigerton vs. Clintonville and Bonduel vs. Menominee. The schedule for today (July 21) is game 1 loser vs. game 2 loser, game 1 winner vs. game 3 loser and game 2 winner vs. game 3 winner.
Regional champions advance to state starting Thursday, July 28. The Class AA tournament will be held in Tomah, while Richland Center will host the Class A tournament.
