Manawa opens with 21-6 win over Thundercats

A young Manawa Wolves football team opened the 2011 varsity football season with a 21-6 victory over the Marion/Tigerton Thundercats, Friday, Aug. 19.

Manawa rushed for two touchdowns and 217 yards on 42 carries in the game. From the air, the Wolves completed two of five passes for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Kyler Heimbruch, Drew Meyer and Ian Van Rossum each scored touchdowns for the Wolves.

In the first quarter, Kyler Heimbruch ran in a three-yard touchdown and Logan Hass ran in the two point conversion to put Manawa in the lead at 8-0. The score remained 8-0 until the third quarter, when Donny Sell connected with Drew Meyer from seven yards out to score the Wolves second touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

In the fourth quarter, Ian Van Rossum ran in Manawa’s third touchdown from 10 yards out and Aaron Strebe kicked the extra point to put the score at 21-0. Later in the quarter, Marion/Tigerton’s Adam Mielke connected for a seven yard touchdown pass. The two point conversion failed.

Manawa plays at home this Friday against Oostburg.
